More about Sandy Steinfelt:
Received a BMA in Music Education from BYU-Idaho. I enjoy creating music for my friends and family and like to share my gifts with others.
Song background:

My first semester of college at BYU-Idaho our final in Music Theory was to compose and original hymn. While deciding what it should be about, I was struck by a quote that was shared in my Book of Mormon class. (Boyd K. Packer "The Brilliant Morning of Forgiveness", 1995 Oct. conference)

"The thought that rescued Alma, when he acted upon it, is this: Restoring what you cannot restore, healing the wound you cannot heal, fixing that which you broke and you cannot fix is the very purpose of the atonement of Christ.

When your desire is firm and you are willing to pay the “uttermost farthing,”16 the law of restitution is suspended. Your obligation is transferred to the Lord. He will settle your accounts.

I repeat, save for the exception of the very few who defect to perdition, there is no habit, no addiction, no rebellion, no transgression, no apostasy, no crime exempted from the promise of complete forgiveness. That is the promise of the atonement of Christ."

I composed my hymn and thought little of it until years later, when the church announced it was accepting submissions for new hymns, I decided to dust off my old school project. I changed a few things and added more verses than the original version because my testimony of the Atonement had grown since that first year of college and I had more I wanted to share more of my Love of the Atonement as well as an added focus on the power of covenants, as emphasized by President Nelson.

Lyrics: Restoring what I cannot restore,
Healing the wound I cannot heal,
Fixing what I've broke and cannot fix.
Chorus:
Stay on the cov'nant path.
It will lead you to your heav'nly home.
Christ has given His life for us—
Come and follow Him.
Bringing me hope when I despair,
Giving me faith when I feel fear,
Giving me the strength to overcome
Chorus:
Stay on the cov'nant path.
Faith will help you to find every step.
Christ has given His life for us—
Come and follow Him.
When I am wond'ring who I am,
When I am unsure why I'm here,
When I pour my whole heart out in prayer
Chorus:
Stay on the cov'nant path.
Repent; give your burdens to the Lord.
Christ has given His life for us—
Come and follow Him.
Finding the joy which I have lost,
Filling the holes within my soul,
Offering me pow'r beyond my own:
Chorus:
Stay on the cov'nant path.
Covenants will help you know the way.
Christ has given His life for us—
Come and follow Him.
So, I will give all that I have.
So, I will do all I can do
For with him I'll break the chains of Hell.
Chorus:
Stay on the cov'nant path.
Let the Holy Spirit guide the way.
Christ has given His life for us—
Come and follow Him.
