More about Mariann L. Johnston:
I have served as a church musician and a educator for many years: ward organist, choir pianist, choir director, primary pianist, and piano teacher. I enjoy creating organ settings, piano arrangements, SATB arrangements, and SSA arrangements. The piano medleys can be shortened or lengthen by playing selected songs/hymns.
The tune Kingsfold is an old traditional English melody of unknown date or place. The tune was named after the town Kingsfold, Sussex, England. Another source refers Kingsfold as an Irish melody dating back to the Middle Ages. This wonderful melody was published in the 1906 English Hymnal edited by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958). Ralph Vaughan Williams harmonized the Kingsfold for congregational singing. Among texts using the tune Kingsfold are "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say," "How Shall I Sing That Majesty," and "O Sing a Song of Bethlehem." The tune Kingsfold was used with The poem written by LDS poet William W. Phelps (1792-1872) "If You Could Hie to Kolob" was set to the tune Kingsfold. My organ setting (with no words) captures feeling of the early history of this melody.
