This hymn is a prayer to the Lord requesting His help to endure and ultimately overcome opposition, and to recognize and accept His will in our lives regardless of our circumstances.
Lyrics: Verse 1:
Oh Lord, at times it’s difficult
To walk thy narrow path,
And harder still to then endure
While opposition lasts.
Life’s road has many thorns and stones
Whereby we oft do stumble;
And Satan who never rests or sleeps,
Sets traps that bring us trouble.
Verse 2:
I know I can, and try I will;
I’ll strive to do my best.
I’ll change what can, the other leave,
And unto thee entrust.
Just like a tree or diamond rough,
I shall be pruned and polished;
Or like an oyster, with grain of sand,
Whose pearl comes forth in patience.
Chorus:
Oh Lord, through trial and sorrow,
Temptation great and struggle,
In thee I trust and I feel safe.
Oh Lord our God, thy will be done!
Please help me now that I may overcome.
