More about Danielle Williams:
AKA Danielle the Choir Pianist
This is a song for Christian mothers and sons. It's also a tribute to my friend Kaye.
Kaye is a passionate woman. She loves the gospel, her family, her country, her students, and her sports teams (who may as well be her family; whenever she tells me about her cherished players, I feel like she's talking about an extra set of sons...she's THAT proud of their achievements on and off the field).
She also loves energetic hymns--when I requested a list of her favorites, most of them were the real toe-tappers!
Of the set, I picked ONWARD, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS to arrange in her honor.
See, back when she was raising her family, she was a military wife, having to manage a home and children while her husband was away on deployments. She successfully raised children who are strong in the gospel to this day, and now she's working on her grandsons!
For this arrangement, I wanted to capture her inner strength. That strength looks different than that seen in the robust menfolk she's around, but it's just as strong and influential as any battlefield general's.
I also wanted to write a song that would carry her testimony to the grandsons she loves so much. Listen close and you'll hear her calling out "Fear not!" "Courage!" "The Lord is on our side!"
So this hymn is a tribute to Kaye--and it's a tribute to all Christian moms fighting to raise a "sin-resistant generation." Your job is not easy! I hope this hymn will help you take heart!
"Yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it." -Alma 56:47-48
