More about Amy Poff:
My name is Amy Poff. I am from Kentucky and grew up playing piano and violin. I served a mission in Arizona, and had many opportunities to play with other missionaries, which deepened my appreciation and love for sacred music . I am now working on some arrangements and original music and hope that someone can use them to increase their testimony of the Savior!
Song background:

We lived with God before we came to Earth and felt so much love from Him and other people. We knew we needed bodies and experiences to become more like our Heavenly Father, so He created a plan to help us do that! We rejoiced in it even though we knew it would be hard. Like in Elder Uchtdorf's beautiful talk "Yearning for Home", sometimes I find myself missing the life I had there. Even though I can't remember it, I know that I learned to trust my Heavenly Parents and that I felt the peace that they bring. This song talks about some of the good things that come to our lives through Christ's sacrifice and how we can receive that love and help from God while we're here. (See Isaiah 61:3.)

(This song was created for a more casual setting rather than a sacrament meeting and has piano chords to go with vocals. Please let me know if you use it!)

Lyrics: 1. Dear Heav'nly Father, I can't remember the life I lived with you. I'm so grateful for thy plan and the world you brought me to. You promised me that life would teach me love and joy and pain now I'm a little homesick for your presence once again.

Chorus: You bring beauty for ashes. Death has lost its sting. It is through Christ our Savior that I have been set free from these chains that bind me. They want to hold me back, but the beauties of heaven are the only things that last.

2. Dear Heav'nly Father, how do I get through these troubles in my life? All my mistakes and heartaches, the pain, and all the strife. You promised joy for mourning and peace beyond compare. So please teach me, remind me that you will be right there.

Chorus

3. I can feel the joys of heaven as I study and I pray. When the world feels dark and empty, I know Christ hasn't gone away. From all these things I feel inside , I want to share His light. For the beauties of heaven are what make the world so bright.

Chorus (repeat last line)
