I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2023. On one of those first painful days when it all still felt surreal, I went out for a jog. It started to rain. As my head, clothing, and shoes became soaked, I realized that the same rain that was making me uncomfortable was also nourishing the earth. I was running in living water, and I felt a great need to understand how to access God's Living Water. So I went home and opened my scriptures. looking for all the references I could find to water, especially to Jesus Christ as my source of living water.

This song is the compilation of all of those scriptural discoveries. Each verse is written in d minor. It is you or me pleading with the Father for help. Each chorus is written in the relative major--F-- and is the hopeful, helpful voice of God, inviting us to be nourished, comforted, and renewed by Him. The key signature looks the same, but the shift in focus changes the entire mood. If desired, the verse and chorus can be sung by different singers.

Throughout the song, there is a gradual progression from hopeless, to hopeful, to helpful. As we allow Him to nourish us, we can then share the abundance of peace and grace He has given us with others. This is one of the gifts of cancer to me: I can now turn and bless in new ways, knowing how I have been blessed by the love of God and the compassion of others.
