Song background:

This is a musical narration telling of the Saints departure from Nauvoo, crossing the plains, and arriving in the Salt Lake Valley. It begins with the sorrow felt by the Saints for leaving their homes in Nauvoo. The hardships experienced while crossing the plains is musically described. It is climaxed by the joy of arriving in their mountain home. It is a medley of familiar hymns and children's songs and also some original musical narration.
