Song background:

An original hymn focusing on the Fall of Man and our individual sinful choices, the atoning sacrifice of Jesus, the Resurrection, and the Sacrament.  This lyric was inspired by an address by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, in which he said, "God loves broken things."

Lyrics: Broken was the Lord's command when, from a tree, partook our parents the forbidden fruit, and innocence forsook. Broken is the Father's law when willfully, I stray, rebel against his holy word, and turn to my own way. Broken was the power of sin when, in Gethsemane, our great Redeemer knelt and bled, whose suffering made us free. Broken was our Savior's flesh by thorn and nail and spear when, on the cross, he bowed and died to conquer sin and fear. Broken were the bands of death on Resurrection morn when, rising from the tomb, the Christ was unto life reborn. With broken bread and broken hearts, we come before thy throne. Lord, make thou whole each broken soul, and make our love thine own.
