When the first new batch of hymns came out, I heard this song and thought to myself, "Wow, if all the new songs are like this one, we are going to have a great new hymn book!" I think this hymn has touched many people. I have seen it referenced in a few General Conference addresses already, including being quoted as the very first line of Elder Jeremy Jaggi's October 2025 talk.
Later I felt prompted to write an arrangement of it. As I composed it, I felt I was just being led in arranging and quickly. I even saw Heavenly Father's hand directly at one point. When I was at my stake center for a youth activity my kids were attending, I brought composing paper to work on this song while they had their activity. The very last part I worked on was during the second verse where I repeat the phrase that says "make me whole." I couldn't believe how good it sounded to repeat the phrase in the lower octave. Now, when I worked on it at home the next time, I played that part and it sounded so muddy. My piano wasn't as nice as the one at the stake center. If I had written that part at home, I really think I would not have done that deep part. When I played the song for my husband the first time he said that was his favorite part. I think it was divine intervention that had me write that part at that place.
After I was finished, I asked Sister Annette Dickman, who wrote the song, for permission to publish it. She was so kind to not only give me permission but suggest edits to the piece. The key change in the last verse she really helped me figure out and I love how that part sounds! It was fun to be able to correspond with her.
Also, I was excited to use an image for my video that was made by my sister-in-law, Natalie Isaacson. It's called "Binding the Brokenhearted." It reminded me of the line: make me whole, complete and holy. The picture depicts the Savior using the Japanese art, Kintsugi, to make the broken object whole and even more beautiful than before it was broken. I love it.
