. This is a piano duet arrangement of "The Spirit of God". It is for an intermediate player paired with an older beginner. The beginner should be able to count well and play 3 sharps. This beloved LDS hymn, first sung at the dedication of the Kirtland temple, has been sung at all temple dedications since. This arrangement starts with the melody simply played by the higher part. The lower part plays an octave chord. Harmony parts are added with each musical phrase and the first verse ends joyfully. In the second verse the higher part has a beautiful solo with a Baroque feel. The lower part joins in near the end. The third and final verse gives the melody to the lower part while the higher part plays an exuberant harmonizing part. Listen for the "Hosannas" in the chorus! If you are a piano teacher, this would be a great piece to play with your student. It is appropriate for any church service.
