More about Susan L Purves:
About 1980, I woke up one morning with a song in my mind. I wrote it down and it became my first song, "Faith". Over the next few years, during a difficult time in my life, I seemed to have a gift for being able to compose and arrange music. Now, many years later, I still enjoy that music, so now I would share it with others.

In 1982, I wanted to write something using the beautiful words in 2 Nephi 4:28-35. So one Sunday night I propped my Book of Mormon up on the piano music stand, and diddled around on the piano. Nothing came. the next Sunday was the same. But the third Sunday, Easter Sunday, a tune came into my mind, which I wrote down. then came the accompaniment, and then, very laboriously for me, the parts. This choir number has been sung by several choirs, and many people have enjoyed it.
Lyrics: Awake my soul! No longer droop in sin. Rejoice O my heart, and give place no more for the enemy of my soul. Awake my soul awake! Rejoice O my heart! Awake my soul awake!
O Lord wilt thou redeem my soul? Wilt thou deliver me out of the hands of my enemies?
Wilt thou make me that I may shake at the appearance of sin?
Rejoice O my heart and cry unto the Lord, the rock of my salvation.
Rejoice O my heart and cry unto the Lord, and say, O Lord I will praise Thee for ever.
O Lord, wilt thou encircle me around in the robes of they righteousness?
O Lord, I have trusted in thee. I will trust in thee forever.
Rejoice O my heart and cry unto the Lord, The rock of my salvation.
Rejoice O my heart and cry unto the Lord, O Lord I will praise the for ever. Amen.
