Ben Alder was born and raised in St. George, Utah. He took piano lessons from Jaime Stucki at age 8 until moving on to the organ at age 14 with Kathleen Briggs as his teacher. He now takes organ lessons with acclaimed keyboardist (organ, piano, etc.) in Washington County, Geoff Myers. He has played in LDS Tabernacles in St. George, Utah, Paris, Idaho, Brigham City, Utah and Logan, Utah and even was invited to play the 5 manual (keyboards) Salt Lake Tabernacle organ hosted by now deceased tabernacle organist, Robert Cundick. He loves composing, improvising and arranging hymns and songs.

Song background:

This is my first vocal solo arrangement. The hymn is "The Lord Is My Shepherd". The purpose of the arrangement is how low and high a vocalist can get. In the hymnbook, (hymn #108), the altos take the melody while the sopranos act like the discant on the first 3 phrases and then sopranos take over the melody. This vocal solo arrangement is for Medium high Voice and Piano. (2nd Soprano or tenor solo.) On pickup measure 52, instead of "'my' Shepherd", I changed it to "'our' Shepherd", noting that he will comfort all of us. Not just ourselves.

I will do more vocal solo ranges in the future to fit for each vocalist's range.
