Song background:

This song is based on a story told by Elder Bednar in his talk "Bear Up Their Burdens with Ease".  He tells about a guy driving in the wintertime up in the mountains.  His truck got stuck in the snow and he couldn't get out no matter what he tried.  So he decided to chop firewood, and he completely filled the back of his truck.  He tried again to drive forward and he was able to get free.  Elder Bednar relates this to our lives and how the "load" we each carry (our trials, responsibilities, challenges, etc) actually helps us progress and move forward.  And that if we turn to Christ, He will "share our load and bring us home".

Lyrics: Verse 1:
A wintry mountain highway,
A truck stuck in the snow,
The driver can't move forward,
And he's far from help and home (far from home).

He decides to chop some firewood,
The truck is soon quite full,
Then he tries to get it moving,
And the truck begins to roll.

Chorus:
It is the load that moves you forward.
It is the load that brings you home.
Turn to the Lord and He will lead you,
He'll share your load and bring you home.

Verse 2:
My burdens are so heavy,
I feel them weigh me down.
How can I travel onward?
How can I carry on? (carry on)

If they could be taken from me,
I'm sure I could go on.
Then the Spirit whispers gently,
Teaching me to see beyond:

Verse 3:
I feel the Savior beckon,
He reaches out in love.
So I will look t'ward heaven,
And with faith reach up above. (reach above)

He will fill me with His power.
His grace will strengthen me.
And my burdens will be lighter,
Now that He has helped me see:
