As an alto, I love this song's traditional SATB alto line. If you've seen my other arrangements, you'll know that my passion is to arrange hymns for smaller groups or choirs so that they can sound richer and more complete. Because I love the traditional alto line, I wanted to arrange something with that same feel. I arranged the hymn for a duet or two-part chorus in a counterpoint style. My favorite choral pieces to sing are written in counterpoint. There is something magical about each voice part having its own melody line. To me, counterpoint is symbolic of what unity is supposed to be: we don't have to conform to others...we can sing our own unique melody and fit beautifully with others singing theirs. I hope I did this beautiful hymn justice and that you enjoy it.
