More about Michael Bailey:
My name is Michael Bailey and music has always been my first love in life. I graduated from BYU with a BA in Music and spent time in composition and orchestration and music recording. I enjoy getting feedback so please reach out to me if you listen and have comments!
This is my second attempt at setting scripture to music. I'm not sure what it was that led me to the Sermon on the Mount in particular (hopefully the Spirit was behind it!), but I couldn't stop thinking about it once I got started. The musical form was challenging for me (I'm not even sure how it categorizes! Probably ABA'?) and finding ways to make the text 'fit' into musical phrases was also tricky; but my desire was to produce a piece that would allow us to enjoy the Saviors message in a pleasant way. For some reason I felt impressed to produce two versions, one in F and one in Eb (recording is in F) because at the passage 'Ye shall have great joy" (I spent alot of time thinking about what joy would sound like) the music is soft and high (very difficult). While F isn't considered incredibly high, its deffinately getting up there - so my hope was that Eb would make it a little more accessible. While the overall sound in Eb isn't my preference (feels just a bit low to me) I think it still works. As always, I love to hear from people who perform my music and get feedback on their experience.
