Music is an avocation: piano at 8, F Horn at 12, trumpet at 16, school & church choirs and small group singing from 12. BA - Music & BBA - Finance @ Boise State 1982. My daily career is as a corporate lawyer in Spokane, WA. I have served in church music callings nearly all of my adult life. Due to MS, since about 2017, I have been writing and arranging hymns and children's music more, and accompanying or performing less. I seem to put a few works out each year, which is more than I expected when I started. Having participated in many different wards and their choirs, one of my primary objectives is to make the music interesting, but not intimidating for a typical ward or accompanist.

Song background:

After the Church announced it was soliciting new music for a new Children's Songbook, I thought on my experience as both a Primary pianist and chorister, and initially wrote alternate settings for the 1st, 2nd and 8th Articles of Faith because they are in minor keys and I always felt songs of faith should have brighter feel to them. I then learned the Articles of Faith could be treated as one submission and that it may be desirable to have new music for all of the Articles of Faith. So I decided to give it a shot and submitted The Articles of Faith about a month ago. Since then, I made a few changes to the 4th and 5th Articles to make the accompaniment a little easier (with specific suggestions from Anna Molgard for the 5th, which I incorporated). I also entirely re-wrote the 11th. The upload includes the revisions.

It was a fun and inspiring process! I didn't have to worry about doctrine. Rather I was focused on coming up with melodies and rhythms that were pleasant and reasonably matched the natural flow of the Articles of Faith. I also sought to make the music so that they were in the range of children's voices, and that an early intermediate pianist could play them - perhaps some Primary children.
