More about Debbie Wood:
How I love my mother, Brenda; my very first teacher in life. When I was eight, I had a desire to learn to play the piano and she began teaching me about the different notes. Then in Jr. High, my music teacher, Marvin Hill, understood the power of chords, and in one month, changed my life. Over the years, I've written different songs, both upon request, and to express the emotion I was feeling at the time. Each of these songs has a story of how it was written. (Which can also be found at www.power-plus-learning.com/debbs-music/) Each of these songs I dedicate to our loving Father in Heaven and Savior, Jesus Christ. I know They live. I know They love us perfectly and give us gifts and talents to share with others and make this world a better place. How grateful I am to Them for all I've been blessed with.
Song background:

I've always loved the scriptures that talk about putting on the armor of God and being reassured that He will fight our battles.  He's invested in us winning this fight, just as we are.  I also love the thought that with the armor, everything protects, but we do have one weapon of defense: the sword of the Spirit!  That's always been a powerful thought to me.

I was a mother at the time this song was written (1999). My oldest, Bry, was 9, Steve was 8 and Josh was going on 5. How I wanted my little warriors to know the power, not only of choosing the right but of choosing the Lord and having His Spirit with them always!

Knowing that music was a powerful way to teach, I sought the spirit as I read the scriptures and pleaded with my Heavenly Father to help me write a song that would empower them.  I think it did more for me, than for them, but I was grateful for this song when it came.

(Sorry for this midi .mp3 - it makes it seem like this song has no feeling, pauses or slowing of any kind. I hope to do a better recording, but for now this will give you an idea of how it sounds.)

Lyrics: 1. As a child born of good parents, I've been taught in the ways of the Lord.
I accept the call to follow and live His word.
He'll protect me if I'm faithful, so I'll put on His armor of truth
and allow His will to guide me in all I choose.

Chorus: Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might for He has shown us the way.
For the strength of the Lord and the power of His might will deliver us each day.

2. As a child my parents taught me to take it a step at a time
and the principles will follow - line upon line.
When the Savior was a baby, He, too, had to grow grace for grace.
If I choose the right then someday, I'll see His face.

Chorus: Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might for He has shown us the way.
For the strength of the Lord and the power of His might will deliver us each day.
(Repeat chorus)
