More about Michael Bailey:
My name is Michael Bailey and music has always been my first love in life. I graduated from BYU with a BA in Music and spent time in composition and orchestration and music recording. I enjoy getting feedback so please reach out to me if you listen and have comments!
The passing of my parents a few years back was one of the most difficult times of my life. My parents were both active in music and encouraged me in my endeavors to become a musician. We all sang together many times in the local performances of the Messiah, and my mother often sang the Aria, "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth". I wrote this song as a way of dealing with their passing, finding my faith in the Resurrection, and honoring my parents memory. The text follows the words from the same scriptues Handel set to his piece. For the most part, the text is similar, with a few minor exceptions. I've written Hymn arrangements, but this was my first attempt at original music (for choir anyways). The form might feel a bit unusual as it was written more like an anthem than a typical hymn arrangement. The music is intended to support the message of the text. I do not necessarily consider this piece 'finished' at this point as i have not yet had a chance to get a choir together to try it out (hoping to soon). I'm really hoping to get feedback - so please listen if you have the time and reach out to me!
6-28 Updates bases on feedback and getting a group to sing the song. Thanks to all those who shared comments. Changing out the original for the version to be submitted to church music competition. Also replacing the original recording with an actual small ensemble singing the piece. Thanks to Kara and Tee Spjute, Laurie Stevens, Juliana Pierson, and Lynn Lovendale for helping to make this a reality. There are some small differences with the actual written music and the performance as some corrections needed to be made after the recording was completed.
