More about Donnalynn Grunewald:
Most of my music is original. Because I have lived in small branches for most of my life, I try to write songs that can be performed by a small group or a choir of inexperienced singers.
Song background:

I wondered what Joseph might have done when arriving in Bethlehem to find “no room in the inn”. Were the innkeepers polite? impatient? At how many inns did Joseph inquire before a place was found for them? I can imagine the worry he and Mary were experiencing knowing the baby was about to be born.

You might consider using a soloist for the first verse and a different soloist (a child, perhaps?) in the last verse.

Lyrics: Innkeeper, we are weary travellers, five days on the road.
May we rest our dusty feet and ease our heavy load?

Chorus: Move along, Joseph, move along.
There’s no room in the inn.
So move along, Joseph, move along.
There’s no room in the inn.

Innkeeper, have you place for two of us? See, my wife and me.
We have come from far-off Nazareth, here by Rome’s decree.

Chorus:

Please good folk of David’s city, Mary’s time is nigh.
Have you not some humble shelter, a place where she may lie.

Joseph, I have found a place for you. Safe and warm and still.
See it there behind the inn – a cave beneath the hill.

Chorus:
Move along, Joseph, move along.
Move along.
