"Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" is a German carol that was first published in 1599. Originally, "Es ist ein' Ros' entsprungen", 2 verses were tranlated into English by Theodore Baker late in the 19th century and a third verse later added by Gracia Grindal. The carol compares the Savior, who came into the world bringing light and beauty, to a rose that blooms in winter.
