More about Keith Rowley:
I recently retired as the Technical Services Librarian in the Utah Valley University Library. Besides my masters in Library Science I also have a masters in Music.
Many, many years ago I heard the Tabernacle Choir sing this beautiful melody. A couple of weeks ago for some reason, this melody popped into my head and wouldn’t go away. I finally decided I needed to do something about it, and I immediately knew it needed to be introduced to my church choir. When I found a copy of the Deems Taylor arrangement that the Tabernacle Choir performed, I discovered that the words were secular and not sacred. I went to work looking for sacred lyrics that would go with the music. Not only did I add new words, but I also simplified the voice parts so it would be easier for a church choir to sing.
It is exactly one hundred years ago that Deems Taylor wrote his arrangement. I am extremely excited to introduce this beautiful melody to a new generation of musicians.
