Song background:

A friend asked me to write a Christmas song that covers the whole life of Jesus Christ.  At Christmas we of course celebrate His birth, but it is also important to remember that without the rest of His matchless life there would be little reason to remember His birth.

Lyrics: Verse 1
On a night long ago, in a stable so small,
Baby Jesus was born to be King of all.
The angels rejoiced, all heaven did sing,
The Shepherds and wise men, gifts they did bring.

Chorus
It began in a manger, a babe from above,
He came to redeem us and teach us to love.
It didn't end in the manger or on Calvary,
It became the beginning of our eternity.

Verse 2
As a boy He was found in the temple one day,
Teaching others the truth, showing them the way.
And as He grew up with wisdom and grace,
In favor with all, preparing His place.

Verse 3
As His mission began, His disciples did come,
They travelled abroad, serving one by one.
Christ healed and He blessed, gave God the glory,
Miracles abounded for all to see.

Verse 4
To the garden He went to atone for us all,
And humbly He died, overcoming the fall.
Then on the 3rd day He rose from the grave,
His life is a gift, that all may be saved.

Verse 5
As we think of His birth, we remember there's more,
His life's sacrifice helps us endure.
Each part of His life, each moment divine,
Has meaning for us, at this Christmas time.
