More about Ben Alder:
Ben Alder was born and raised in St. George, Utah. He took piano lessons from Jaime Stucki at age 8 until moving on to the organ at age 14 with Kathleen Briggs as his teacher. He now takes organ lessons with acclaimed keyboardist (organ, piano, etc.) in Washington County, Geoff Myers. He has played in LDS Tabernacles in St. George, Utah, Paris, Idaho, Brigham City, Utah and Logan, Utah and even was invited to play the 5 manual (keyboards) Salt Lake Tabernacle organ hosted by now deceased tabernacle organist, Robert Cundick. He loves composing, improvising and arranging hymns and songs.
The Christian hymn, “In the Garden” is an Easter/Spring hymn that explores the intimate connection between us and God (or Jesus). Its significant draws inspiration from the biblical account of Mary Magdalene’s encounter with the risen Lord, Jesus Christ. (According to Google AI.)
As I was making this arrangement, I ponder how Mary Magdalene felt has she saw Jesus Christ like it was the first time he saw him “in the garden” by the tomb he was laid. That must have been a thrilled visit.
It really makes sense why I looked up some hymns that represents women. Google suggested this hymn. So I arranged it for 1st and 2nd Sopranos and Altos and piano for its significance.
The arrangement is perfect for Easter if you have an all female choir getting ready for Easter. It will probably be one of the most powerful arrangements because of the dynamics getting loud at the end.
Hope you enjoy my arrangement of the “In the Garden”.
