Writing lyrics has been my favorite creative endeavor for my entire adult life. My English degree from BYU has benefitted this creativity. I have lived in several areas of the country and found composer who share my joy in creating music
I Will Stand for Something is taken from a collection of songs called The Prophets Songbook which contains 17 songs of our modern-day prophets and themes from their presidency. This song was written to highlight a teaching of President Gordon B. Hinckley who expressed confidence in the youth of the church. He said, "In many ways you are remarkable...You are exceptional." President Hinckley believed that the youth today are among the finest the world has ever seen.
President Hinckley encouraged the youth to stand for something and wanted them to practice these ten principles in their lives: love, honesty, morality, civility, understanding, forgiveness, mercy, thrift and industry, optimism, gratitude and faith. He believed that living these principles would bring healing to their lives.

I will stand for hope;
I'll trust and I'll believe,
With faith in the future
There are great things I'll achieve.
I will stand for honesty.
Have good manners and be polite.
