Hear Him is taken from a collection of songs called The Prophets Songbook which contains 17 songs of our modern-day prophets and themes from their presidency. This song was written to highlight a teaching of President Joseph Smith, the Prophet of the Restoration.
He was praying about what church to join. He went into a grove of trees near his home and began calling upon God in fervent prayer. Joseph was visited by God, the Father, and Jesus Christ, His Only Begotten Son.
This is what Joseph said about his experience: "I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me...When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other-- "This is my Beloved Son, Hear Him!"
Lyrics: Joseph found a grove of trees,
Humbly knelt upon his knees;
Praying to the Father up above,
Asking for His guiding love.
Shines a pillar, holy light;
Father, Son robed all in white,
Came descending through the misty air.
Here to answer his earnest prayer.
Then the Father with a gentle voice
Invited him to make a choice.
"This is my Beloved Son. Hear Him!"

Pray to have the Savior's grave.
