Years ago, after wanting to have a baby for two years, I finally got pregnant only to lose the baby a few months later. It was the most heartbreaking thing that had ever happened to me up to that point in my life. I felt broken. I was bitter and angry.

The only way I found peace was by listening to the song “The Way to Emmaus” by Nancy Hanson. And I listened to it over and over again for weeks. My heart slowly changed as I began to trust in God.

I eventually felt whole again. I came to learn that the healing we can receive from God isn’t a cure, it is a “feeling of wholeness-a oneness with God in mind, body, and spirit.”

I love this explanation from Wendy Ulrich on Christ’s healing power, “The scriptures never speak of the gift of cure. They speak of the gift of healing. Healing is a different process from cure. Healing involves a spiritual and emotional reweaving of our life story to incorporate, not merely remove, our injuries. It involves growth and personal change, maturation into a new state of deeper trust in God despite, not in the absence of, suffering.”

Jesus Christ is our healer. We read of so many of his miracles of healing in the New Testament. He went about “healing every sickness and every disease among the people,” (Matthew 9:35) and I believe He still can, does, and will heal us as we turn to Him and trust in Him.
