I was unable to submit this as an arrangement, for which I apologize. The original hymn is not mine, only the adaptation and arrangement is. I think the reason I was unable to submit it as an arrangement might have been because it is not an arrangement of a song listed in the system. I couldn't find any biographical information on N.B. Sargent, but there are many hymns attributed to this person in the 1800s. James M. Gray (May 11, 1851 – September 21, 1935) was a pastor in the Reformed Episcopal Church, a Bible scholar, editor, hymn writer, and the president of Moody Bible Institute 1904-34.
This is a public domain hymn, originally written in a four part hymn style. As with my other arrangments, I wanted to arrange it in SAB in such a way as smaller choirs (without enough men's voices) could sing it. However, in the fourth verse I arranged it to keep the style of the original work. (https://www.pdhymns.com/SheetMusic/B_Normal/A-H_Normal/F_Normal/Fishers%20Of%20Men_N.pdf)
I did adapt some of the words. In the original piece, the Savior is always referred to as Jesus. I kept it as Jesus when He was first mentioned, because He and His actions were being described. When He was being spoken to in the lyrics, I changed Jesus to Savior to reflect the sacred relationship that we have with Him. The only other change I made to the words was the second part of the third verse. The original verse was:
I'll follow on with all my heart, I'll walk with Thee today;
Tho' vile I am, do not depart, Forgive and cleanse, I pray!
Though the language reflected the style of the time, I felt it would be better to change the second half to a plea for guidance and help that is consistent with the gospel as we now understand it. I changed the lyrics of the third verse to:
I'll follow on with all my heart, I'll walk with Thee today;
O train my hands, prepare my heart, O Savior, fit me for Thy way!
I agonized over changing the words and hope this change is acceptable.
Being a member missionary is spoken about often, but many often feel inadequate to the work. I loved this song because of the lyrics. The first verse talks about Jesus calling his disciples to be fishers of men. The second is the realization that our Savior was not just speaking to His disciples, but to us today. The third verse addresses the dilemma many of us feel, and the plea for help to do the work we are called to do. The fourth verse is the most beautiful to me because of the line "And teach me where to cast the net..." We don't have to figure out how to be a missionary. All we need to focus on is asking for help in preparing ourselves. He, through the Holy Ghost, will tell tell us where to cast the net. It's a beautiful reminder and message!

Lyrics: (adapted)
v1. I hear the words, that Jesus spake to them of Galilee; To fishermen beside the lake, He said, "Come, follow me."
(chorus) "Follow me, follow me! Fishers of men henceforth to be," Echo the words from Galilee; Savior, I follow Thee!
v2. I long to make Thy words my own! O, Savior, may it be Thou spakest not, to them alone, but even now to me?
v3. I'll follow on with all my heart, I'll walk with Thee today; O train my hands, prepare my heart, O Savior, fit me for Thy way!
v4. Within my heart Thy love beget a fisherman to be; And teach me where to cast the net as when in Galilee.
