Song background:

The Book of Mormon story about the Jaredite's preparation and journey to the promised land it exciting!

In Ether 3 we learn that the brother of Jared helped  his people build boats to sail to the promised land, but these vessels did not have light in them. The brother of Jared gathered 16 stones, and took them the Savior. The Savior's finger touched each stone so that the Jaredites could travel with light.

Lyrics: A highly favored man of God,
The brother of Jared was his name.
And from the tow'r of Babel
All of the Jaredite people came.
They build eight light-weight barges,
And with their families inside
Were set to sail to the promised land
Across the ocean wide.

The Jaredites build barges tight,
Like dishes, but they did not have light.
Then Jared's brother gathered stones,
Each was smooth and small and white.
He took them to the Savior,
Whose finger touched the sixteen stones.
The brother of Jared saw the Lord;
The Savior's glory shown.

Said Jesus to this man of faith,
"I will show myself unto you."
Because of his great hope and trust,
His faith in the Savior grew.
Some day I can have faith like his,
By obeying and trusting too.
