More about Agustin Martinez:
I began my musical journey at the age of seven, when my parents enrolled me in piano lessons with a member of the Church. With him, I started playing hymns, although for many years I did so only in private and did not participate in meetings. Around 2020, at the age of ten, I stopped playing the piano. Three years later, after moving to a new ward, I reconnected with the music of the Church by joining ward and stake choirs, which sparked a deeper interest in the choral tradition. When I resumed lessons—this time with Ítalo Coello—I began to develop not only my pianistic technique but also my work as an arranger. I currently accompany sacrament meetings on the piano and participate in special musical numbers with the ward choir whenever I am asked. In my arrangements, I seek to respect the original character of the hymn while adding musical clarity, drawing inspiration from the work of the Tabernacle Choir and musicians such as Mack Wilberg, Ryan Murphy, and Ítalo Coello, whom I admire both for their musical approach and their service. My intention is that these arrangements may contribute to worship and help those who perform and hear them draw closer to God.
Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy
This arrangement began in a seminary class. A friend and I asked our teacher if we could sing a hymn before class for the opening. He said yes, but that he would choose the hymn. He chose Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy, which is his favorite hymn. After singing the hymn, he explained the lyrics, placing emphasis on the part that says “Reflejemos los destellos,” which in Spanish means Let us reflect the beams. He told us that we do not have to shine with our own light upon others, but rather that we have to reflect the Savior’s light to others so that they may obtain the fulness of the Gospel. This reflection stayed in my mind for a long time. At one moment, sitting in front of the piano, a thought came to me: “Make an arrangement of Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy.” And that is how this arrangement was born, indirectly dedicated to one of my seminary teachers.
This is an arrangement for SATB choir and organ. It is one of my first solo arrangements, created with very little support. I began working on this arrangement in November 2025, with revisions by Italo Coello for the choral harmonies. I would also like to thank everyone who takes a moment simply to listen to my arrangement; it makes me very happy to share my arrangements. It would be a complete honor if someone were to perform this arrangement. Thank you very much.
