Comments for this piece:
From Brian Petersen: Lovely setting of this song! I just worry about the reality of someone trying to hit the high C's and D's and all the notes leading up to it(?) Maybe pitch the song down a 4th or 5th for the abilities of 99% of all singers. Just a thought.
4.0 stars.

Song background:

Be Thou My Vision is from an 8th century poem set to a traditional Irish melody.

Be Thou My Vision is a classic! It has a beautiful and serene melody loved by many. This arrangement is easy, yet sounds full with the beautiful chords and melody.

This song is an ancient traditional Christian hymn of Irish origin. The words are based on a Middle Irish poem that has traditionally been attributed to Dallán Forgaill.

The best-known English version, with some minor variations, was translated in 1905 by Mary Elizabeth Byrne in 1905, then made into verse by Eleanor Hull and published in 1912. Since 1919 it has been commonly sung to an Irish medieval folk tune, noted as "Slane" in church hymnals, and is one of the most popular hymns in the United Kingdom.

No song is too old that it cannot be sung again, especially this ancient medieval tune set to such beautiful lyrics. Be Thou My Vision is a reminder that man’s ways are not God’s ways.
