This brass quintet is inspired by the works that Spanish chapel masters of the eighteenth century composed to be performed during the religious offices celebrated on the principal feasts of the liturgical calendar. One of these feasts, the most endearing and familiar of all, is Christmas, which begins precisely with its First Vespers.
